About Us

Stadium Golf Club & Banquet Facility has an 18-hole, Par 71 daily fee Golf Course built entirely on sand located in Schenectady, NY.  Because it’s built entirely on sand, it dries faster than any other course in the area!  Stadium features an all grass Driving Range,  Pro Shop,  Restaurant and Bar and a beautiful Patio that overlooks scenic holes 9 & 18. We also offer a full service Banquet Facility, perfect for weddings, engagement parties, holiday parties and more.

Henry Lewkowicz, left, and Ed Hennel look over the Stadium Country Club golf course which they recently purchased. The new owners will continue the same operation with the regulation nine-hole course being limited to members only. However, the clubhouse and par-three course are open to the public. Plans are being made for an additional nine holes to be constructed on 60 acres of land adjacent to the course.

Our GOAL

Owned and operated by the Hennel family since 1966 our core principles are founded in customer service. We consistently strive to provide the best experience for all our patrons at reasonable prices.

During the Golf season, more often than not you can find the Greg Hennel on the grounds maintaining the facility to their high standards and always striving to improve.

Inside you’ll find Michele Hennel and other friends and family working to ensure all Stadium guests have a pleasurable experience. When Michele works with clients planning a banquet or a wedding, she treats it as though her first daughter were getting married, doing everything possible to create beautiful memories.

Our History

When the Schenectady Blue Jays folded in 1957, owner Pete McNearney built and ran a 9-hole golf course until 1965 when we (the Hennel family) purchased and started running the facility.

We ran the 9-hole regulation course and the pitch & putt course just as Pete McNearney had until the early 1970’s when we decided to close the pitch & putt course and convert it to a driving range. At this time we also started construction of our new golf course, a project that would keep us very busy for years to come. When we finally opened as an 18-hole golf course in August of 1987 there were only 2 holes left from the original course that Pete McNearney built. Soon after that those two holes were altered so that now we have a completely new golf course.

The improvements continued over the years: In 1993 we installed irrigation and completely sodded our driving range. In 1995 we automated our irrigation system on the entire course and also built a 7200 square foot facility to house our large fleet of Club Car golf cars. In 1997 we were one of the first public facilities to implement a spikeless policy. The construction of our state of the art maintenance building was completed in 1999. And at the end of 2000 we made the news as much of the old stadium structure got demolished to make way for our new clubhouse.

Construction continued through the opening of the new banquet facility and clubhouse in May 2004. Days after the opening of the new building the remaining ‘third base’ section of the old stadium shell was removed and landscaping was completed.
